Introduction to Davis Family History
Researching my family's history didn't start out well, when I ask my father questions such as; “what was your grandfathers name?, and what did he do?” his response was “I don't know”. My father said that his grandparents were never spoke about, not because of skeletons in the cupboard that they didn't want to come out, just that its in the past and things were not spoke of in the past. During World War 2 my grandparents were bombed out twice, destroying many photos and documents. The only piece of evidence we could find in my father’s files was his fathers (my grandfathers) wedding certificate he was married in 1942 in Battersea. This had his father’s name it and his occupation. This was my first corner stone on which I built my family history research.
Working back through the years, I learnt that the Davis line survived two World Wars, plagues and family unrest to become the family we are now.
Like many family historians I tried to stay to one family line though-out my research; however I did get side tracked from time to time as you will find out, although this was not without chasing a few red herrings along the way.
